Baby Orangutans
Female Orangutans only breed once every 7-8 years. Infants depend on their mothers for at leats five of those years. During that time, they learn survival skills in the forest, such as gathering food, climbing trees and staying protected.
Wild Orangutans live for about 45 years; during that time a female will have no more than 3 babies. Normally only one baby is born at a time, but occasionally twins are born. The few times twins being born has been seen, the second baby was born weak and died soon after birth. A baby orang-utan weighs around 3.5 pounds (1.58 kg).
